smb problems

This sounds very similar to the problem I have from time to time using stock 11.10 Kubuntu. I have never gotten to the bottom of it, but find that connectivity can always be restored by shutting down and restarting the network. Winbindd never restarts automatically; it must be restarted manually from the command line as root. How do you do the restart from command line? I have/had 2 shares marked in Dolpin Places I would just click on and they would open, I have/had a printer on the server that I use. Suddenly printer is not working, had to change from shared printer smb://workgroup/server/__sharename to smb://192.../sharename smb browsing the same, only by using ip number can I access shares on the servers. Anyone else seeing this, time to file a bug report and back to 4.7.3?? kindly Sinclair -- kubuntu-users mailing list kubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com <mailto:kubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com> Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/__mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-users <https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-users> -- kubuntu-users mailing list kubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-users |
smb problems
I use gadmin-Samba to configure my network shares etc., and it lets me disconnect Samba. This its not the command line part, although I'm sure it can be done from that - I just don't know how. It used to be "sudo /etc/init.d samba restart" or something similar but that doesn't work now. When restarted in gadmin-Samba a message appears that winbindd is inactive. At that point I open a terminal window and type "sudo winbindd" which starts winbindd and then everything works.
I wonder if there is some kind of time limitation bug in Samba that won't let it run continually... Sent from my Motorola Xoom Android tablet On Dec 16, 2011 3:56 AM, "O. Use double [tab] (tabulation) in place of [service] to see list of services that can be restarted this way. Substitute "restart" by "status" to get service current status, this can be done without root privileges over dbus, use: status --system [service] "man initctl" is your friend. Otherwise the "old" way that still works is: sudo invoke-rc.d [service] restart Hope it helps. -- kubuntu-users mailing list kubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-users |
