I always backup my critical data to a HD on another system using rsync.
On the systems, 2 x86_64 boxes with Kubuntu 11.04 and one ARM
(Beagleboard XM) with Ubuntu 11.04 I typed "update-manager -d" and it
upgraded just asking a few questions along the way.
