Default Upgrade to KDE 4.5 breaks X

Hi,

I've just updated the system (10.4) to KDE 4.5 using the PPA backports archive. Update went fine, and I seem to have spotted a bumping of the kernel version during the update. The result is that now, after logging in through KDM, I get an akonadi error, and X crashes and I'm sent back to KDM. Looking at the logs, it may be related to drivers[1]. My graphics cards is this:

$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

I installed* ubuntu-desktop, and GNOME seems to work fine. I guess it may have to do with some of they eyecandy in KDE, but unsure of how to test it.

Any hints?

Jose

[1] I guess, as sometimes, the system allows me to launch KDE's system settings, but crashes if I try to enable/disable or change the resolution of my external monitor. There's also the following line in .xsession-errors

plasma-desktop(2460)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(127, 0)
../../intel/intel_bufmgr_gem.c:1152: Error setting memory domains 130 (00000040 00000000): Input/output error .
krunner: Fatal IO error: client killed

kdeinit4: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit4: sending SIGHUP to children.
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
kdeinit4: sending SIGTERM to children.
kdeinit4: Exit

From time to time I've run into major problems upgrading KDE. *In all cases they have been resolved by moving ~/.kde and letting the new version of kde build a new version of the directory. *You'll have to reconfigure your desktop, but many of the config files can be copied over. *For 4.4 > 4.5 I found that some of the Desktop effects settings were buggy after upgrade.
