Ah! That explains it. I installed Ubuntu lucid first. That took care of
pulse problems. THEN I installed KDE. Pulse still works, unless I click
on kmix, which upsets the volume settings in Pulse. So, if sound fails
me, it's a witch-hunt. Ric

Thank you Reinhold, it works, unforch it sets all 8 screens alike. I was
hoping I could finally separate them & use a different image per screen.

Doesn't work here, Ric, it changes all desktops at the same time. So IMO
its broke.

You can if you combine it with the one activity per desktop
"feature". Unfortunately this also means that you'll have to setup
every widget for each desktop, so this isn't an option for me.
There's a bugreport somewhere on bugs.kde.org and it's unlikely to be
resolved soon, because the developers don't see the point (and seem
to have a "we know what's best for the user" complex).

I just did that Gene. Each screen has a separate wall paper. You just
have to do it one screen at a time, in each one. Ric

huh, on mine it only changed the one desktop. So, I switched to the
next, and changed it, and then the next, for 6 screens/desktops.
Try this, go to an empty screen. Right click and select "Desktop
Activity Settings". Pick "Wallpaper" and download some new ones. Click
on a selection and click on "apply". Viola! The desktop should have a
new wallpaper. Close it. Go to the next desktop. It should still be
original. Right click, select wallpaper and go past go, collect $500.
Etc. I didn't install anything at all. It wasn't until you brought it up
that I even tried. Now, all of my desktops would make my mother blush.
Thanx! If I get into trouble, I'll blame you. Ric

Humph, dumb. IMNSHO of course. Darnit, that was probably the most used
feature of kde pre 4. Any idea what the bz number is? I'll go ring the

Look, I don't use KDE (nor oS) but in those days where I did use both,
one had to select "Activities" or some such, somewhere in the options,
before you could have a different wallpaper on each different desktop.
You probably did this but have forgotten that you did which is why you
are able to have a different wallpaper for each "Activity" - "activity"
equalling each desktop you created.
