Default Laptop battery going flat when shutdown

Hi all,

Anybody else noticed their laptop battery going flat when they have shut down? It's as if it isn't properly shutting down at all.

I'm running Lucid on a Sony VAIO. I usually don't disconnect it from mains power, but last night I shut the laptop down, unplugged the mains adaptor and left the laptop on a shelf. When I came to it this morning the battery was totally flat.

I thought it might be just my Sony, but I tried it with my Acer Aspire One (running Ubuntu Lucid Netbook Edition) and that did the same thing. I'm not yet ready to accept the "amazing battery-draining shelf" explanation :-)

I have two VAIOs and I know they drain battery even when shut down, but
not as fast as you are experiencing. Mine drain about 10% of the battery
power each day, so batteries go flat after about 11-12 days. It seems it
is a known problem with VAIOs, at least I found several other people
with this problem on the net. I have to remove the batteries if I'm not
going to use the VAIOs for a few days.

(K)Ubuntu has not shut down my Acer Aspire 1410 laptop since 9.10. I have to manually shutdown each time. If I don't the battery is dead within 24 hours.

Interesting. What do you mean by "manually shutdown"?

This doesn't seem to be my problem, my battery was completely flat to the point where the laptop wouldn't even switch on.

Thanks,

Mark

Default Laptop battery going flat when shutdown

I have to press my power on/off button for 4 seconds once the system seems to have completed shutdown (no more disk activity). This is not totally consistent as occasionally it will actually power down on it's own but this is very rare.
