Default 64/32 bit

Hallo folks,

Actually My system (kubuntu lucid lynx) runs on a Thinkpad with 64 bits,
2 cores. No problem. But... the printer driver doesn't support 64 bit ?!
How can I change the system globally to 32bit?
When I switch to 1 core, the installed software will not work any longer
