Default Strange Konqueror Problem

I did read his reply. Perhaps it is due to a lack of knowledge on my part,
but I saw nothing in his reply that suggests a fix for my problem.

Sorry, it didn't.

There was nothing to. In fact I said that, given the premise of your
problem, Michael Hirsch's reply was complete nonsense, displaying a
certain lack of understanding on his part. If you had read my reply
properly, you would have noticed that his suggestion could not work,
seeing as it is based on a misunderstanding...

I've tried several spellings with apt-get install and all I get is a
package not found error.

I'm thinking this is the wrong road. The original web archives open fine.
It is only when I copy a .war file to a different hard drive or CD that it
won't open.

Seriously? I'm starting to ask myself how proficient you are at
reading english...

user@localhost> apt-cache search "Web Archiver"
konqueror-plugin-webarchiver - Web archiver plugin for konqueror
konq-plugins - Module für Konqueror, den KDE-Datei-/Web-/Dok-Browser

Install either of them, and you're done...

Are you using the same konqueror on the same system to open them? The
error message suggests otherwise...
If so, you definitely have read permissions?

I appreciate your time, but I find your demeanor insulting. Both toward me
and Michael Hirsch. I don't need help that badly. I suggest you go "help"
someone else.

Reinhold's statement might have been a bit harsh and yes - insulting. But he
was right: I gave you the best advice I had to offer - be it wrong or right -
and you didn't follow it thus saying that the advice was wrong. The advice may
be wrong but you didn't try to follow it.

My English is not very good but I think I wrote it pretty clear.

I'm sorry that I'm a little short-tempered in the last couple of
days. You're probably right that I shouldn't answer anything until
things lighten up around here, as I *do* have a habit of becoming
somewhat harsh in my replies when I'm under this amount of stress...

The other side of the coin is, however, that you're displaying a
remarkable talent of either not properly reading the answers of those
trying to help you or simply not understanding them. Please try to
understand that this doesn't help your cause and may tick off those
trying to help you.
(BTW, if you really don't understand answers or parts of them, don't
hesitate to ask - it's way better that people see you making an
effort rather than just ignoring part of their help!)

I did try to follow it, counting the time I spent with Google, for about
30 minutes. It didn't work for me.

Are you aware that .war opens since on the computer in question? It is
only when I copy the files to another drive that they won't open. I've
also tried copying them to CD, which results with the same error.

Fair enough. Sometimes I'm tired, stressed, and cranky too.

Back to the Konqueror problem, I might have been clearer in my original
post. I can archive web pages fine. The resulting .war archive opens fine
in Konqueror. But when I copy the .war files (the entire folder, actually)
to another hard drive on the same computer, or to CD, Konqueror won't open
the .war files. Same computer, same OS.

For what it's worth, I googled before I posted. I googled your
suggestions. None resulted in a solution.

This problem is getting to be pretty strange...
Could you do me a favour and post the output of:

ls -l <.war file name>
md5sum <.war file name>
file <.war file name>

both before and after such a copy operation. A change in the
writeable and executable bits is normal after a copy to and from a
CD, but the rest of the output should stay the same. Also, the output
of the file command should suggest "gzip compressed data" in both
cases.

My guess is that there is some data integrity or permissions problem.
Oh, and just to be sure: Does this only happen when you copy a whole
directory or also when you copy just a single file? Do the filenames
contain spaces? Can you open the .war file directly from the
CD/external hard drive? Does it work if you remove the executable
permission after a copy operation?

It works fine here in KDE 4.4 RC2, BTW.
