Default Multiple desktops

I have a strange problem:

I go to the Multiple Desktop tab in KConfig and tell set 4 desktops. I click Apply or OK and I am left with only one desktop! When I go there again, there's only one desktop.

I am using Kubuntu Hardy (8.04.2) with KDE 3.5.10 and Compiz.

When I go to the Compiz setup tool (CCSM) it says there's 1 desktop and I cannot change it (the slider and the arrows are gray...

How do I add desktops?

Thanks!

Default Multiple desktops

I don't use Compiz, but here in my Hardy 8.04.2 I add more desktops by System Settings -> Desktop -> Multiple Desktops.

I hope I've helped.--

Sorry Paulo,

I do the same at the same place - as soon as I apply the change, it goes back to one desktop...

You have to deactivate Compiz first, then you can add desktops.

Until quite recently, compiz and KDE virtual desktops were incompatible
with one another, in the sense that you had to use compiz virtual desktops,
and the number of KDE virtual desktops always remained at unity.

I can't recall when this changed. Quite possibly it was 8.10.

Prior to that, you needed to decide which kind of virtual desktop you were
going to use, and if you wanted to use KDE ones, then you had to turn off
compiz. At least, that's how I recall it was.

Usually, the easiest thing to do was just to turn off compiz (that's what I
did, anyway).
