I had stopped scrolling down on Synaptic, when I hit send, and now see a bunch
more packages. Most are individual KDE apps, but I also see the following.
Bear in mind that this is on my Kubuntu 8.10 install, and I havn't tried
installing KDE on the Ubuntu 8.10, as I want to leave it as original as
possible, for the odd times that I try to help out with sound related
problems.
I'll have to fire up Ubuntu 8.10, and see if the same KDE packages are
available as I listed above, including the first lot I posted.
All the best.
Nigel.

I had tried to run Miro and it would open and then immediately close.
When I ran it from the command line it gave me the same error I
mentioned above,"Nvidia Open GL driver requires CPUs with SSE to run"
I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers when I saw that. KDE now boots. I
haven't tried Gnome or XFCE or Miro yet.
I still thinks it's interesting that Gnome and XFCE would run while KDE
wouldn't.

on another note, what CPU are you using?
Kind regards

I don't remember and I don't know how to check, other than opening the
case. I tried uname -p and it said "unknown" It's an AMD Athlon running
on an old Gateway.
By the way, I was able to use Miro under KDE and I started Gnome just a
few minutes ago so that I could run uname. This is without the Nvidia
drivers.
