Default OT: Anybody know of a 'Genius' type service or site for TV shows/Movies/Music that is not owned by Apple?

By 'Genius' type service, I'm referring to Apple's Genius service that
helps you find new music that you might like based on your current
likes... ie, you tell it the Artists/songs you like, and it tells you
things that are similar.

It is a very interesting way to find new music/artists that you
otherwise may never find out about, and I'm hoping to find a service
(paid or free) that does the same thing for TV, movies, online video
content.

Thanks...

For music have a look at last.fm[1]. You can enter Artists manually or
'scrobble' what you hear to their website. last.fm then keeps track of
what you hear and generates suggestions on what you might like.
Lots of media players today support last.fm's 'scrobble' feature.

For movies and series you might try trakt[2]. It basically works the
same like last.fm and also integrates great with my media center pc
(based on XBMC).

This is more or less what I was going to say.* For music you might also try a service called "Hypertree" where you listen to some songs and vote on your favorite.* Then it keeps track of your tastes etc and goes from there.* It's different, but can be nice.

Last.fm can play a recommendations radio based on your personal scrobbles and also has a nice "Mix" radio, although these might require a subscription depending on where you live.* Damn those music licensing fees.* There are all sorts of ways to "scrobble" into the last.fm database, including their free desktop program, XBMC, and even greasemonkey scripts for submitting youtube videos.* You could of course write your own.

It is a pity that this does not seem to support any of the 'standard'
Linux video players - Xine, mplayer, or vlc.
