Default burning a dvd+r dl - when trying to play: a52: CRC check failed!

Hi together,

I am trying to capy a DVD. Somewhere it does not work as I want it. What
I did until now:

#mplayer dvd://
#dd if=/dev/cdrom of=~/folder/moviedvd.iso
#mplayer -dvd-device ~/folder/moviedvd.iso dvd://

I do not have any problem playing the iso file this way.

#du -m moviedvd.iso
8016 moviedvd.iso

This results in the first dvd+r dl I try to burn.

#cdrecord -dao -v -gracetime=3 -dev=/dev/cdrom1 ~/folder/moviedvd.iso

For the output see below. I cannot see any error - is there one?

When trying to play the dvd:

#mplayer dvd://
a52: error at resampling
xscreensaver-command: not active: idle timer reset.
a52: CRC check failed! 0.279 ct: 0.000 1/ 1 ??% ??% ??,?% 0 0 51%
a52: CRC check failed!
a52: error at resampling
a52: CRC check failed! 0.193 ct: 0.008 7/ 7 ??% ??% ??,?% 0 0 78%

What I tried until now:

#regionset /dev/cdrom1
regionset version 0.1 -- reads/sets region code on DVD drives
Current Region Code settings:
RPC Phase: II
type: NONE
vendor resets available: 4
user controlled changes resets available: 5
drive plays discs from region(s):, mask=0xFF

Would you like to change the region setting of your drive? [y/n]:y
Enter the new region number for your drive [1..8]:2
New mask: 0xFFFFFFFD, correct? [y/n]:y
Region code set successfully!

Trying to burn the dvd again has the same error when playing it. Does
anyone have an idea what I can do to go on?

Thanks

Without knowing what a52: means, I cannot comment.

If the original DVD was encoded with CSS, you need to use DeCSS to create a
copy that is not "play protected".

> Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 2.01.01a34 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu)

This is an old version of cdrecord. For correct DVD+R/DL behavior with all
drives you need at least a48.

You did not install cdrecord correctly. You need to install it suid root.

If you like to get correct behavior, do not use unsupported dev= parameters.

You did not specify the layer break address but you need to do so for movie
DVDs.

To get the layer brask value from the original disk by calling

cdrecord -atip

then look for something like:

layer break at: 1768640

Then call cdrecord driveropts=layerbreak=1768640

I think that mplayer may be running DeCSS on the iso, but you're
writing a scrambled image to the disk. I'm really sure that you can't
copy a region-locked disk using `dd` as you describe.

Can you try running something like (from my Bash history):
$ vobcopy -m
$ mkisofs -dvd-video -o fargo.iso FARGO_16X9

Stroller.

Thanks for this idea. What I did was the following:

as root:
# mount -t iso9660 -o loop,user /home/me/folderone/themovie.iso
/home/me/scratch/mountpunkt/
# vobcopy -m -i ~/scratch/mountpunkt/
# mkisofs -dvd-video -o themovie_new.iso THEMOVIE/
# cdrecord -dao -v -gracetime=3 -dev=/dev/cdrom1 scratch/themovie_new.iso

This seems to work. Perfect!

Be careful, this disk will most likely not play in stand alone DVD players as
you did not specify the layer break value.

Wikipedia tells its an audio codec for dolby digital. I don't have any
further information on that.

This is the current stable one in the tree. I will try out the latest
because I did experience some trouble I hope to solve with this.

I just did run #emerge -av cdrtools What else do I have to do? Would it
be something like the following I found with google:

>/ Log in as root.
/>/ cd to the directory where the program file lives.
/>/ chown root:bin file_name
/>/ chmod 4775 file_name (that will do only the suid and not both suid and
/>/ guid)/

You are right. It does not. There seems to be a problem in the middle of
the movie. The stand alone skips like a minute. Also I am missing the
last two chapters.
