Could you add ChangeLog entries for thing like this, please? If only
part of developers will update ChangeLogs they became useless...

Whenever you modify anything in profiles directory, please, fill in
ChangeLog. ChangeLogs became useless if only part of developers fill
them.

Just to remind. There are per-arch ChangeLog, base profile ChangeLog,
features ChangeLog and for other stuff ChangeLog:

/usr/portage/profiles/base/ChangeLog
/usr/portage/profiles/arch/sh/ChangeLog
[snip other archs ChangeLog]
/usr/portage/profiles/default-bsd/ChangeLog
/usr/portage/profiles/embedded/ChangeLog
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/arm/ChangeLog
[snip other archs ChangeLog]
/usr/portage/profiles/hardened/x86/ChangeLog
/usr/portage/profiles/features/ChangeLog
/usr/portage/profiles/ChangeLog

Thus whenever you change anything in arch profile, or in base or
features subdirectory use relevant ChangeLog. For other changes like
local USE flags documentation, masking/unmasking/updating masks (not
comments ) use /usr/portage/profiles/ChangeLog.

Thank you.

I currently have pdftex, luatex & xpdf failing here. It would have been
nice if maintainers had been contacted before pushing this to ~arch
since it is a very well known api-breaking library. Not that they seem
difficult to fix but I'm not really fond of the "let it break, wait for
bug reports, fix later" way.

This is bad, because:

- - you forgot the ChangeLog entry
- - you forgot the last rites mail
- - baselayout-2/openrc isn't stable yet, in fact it's even masked in
profiles/targets/vserver/package.mask

`cvs log` is the changelog, i don't see why i should add a changelog entry.

indeed

i don't care. baselayout-vserver is a hack, the vserver profiles are
deprecated since ages (although i think the restructuring revived them),
and the vserver team (that's only me currently) doesn't support anything
else beside openrc.

Greets,

for the same reason packages have ChangeLogs. cvs logs don't come
with the tree.

There is the same reason as for ChangeLogs for ebuilds. Users (I'm user
too) don't have cvs log at hand at their systems but still consider that
it's important to know about changes.

Is it really hard to script `echangelog "msg" && cvs commit -m "msg"`?
