What about something like this one? It still needs some polishing,
mostly to the camera body (like there is missing a handle for a flash)
and to the shadow (I really did it simple and fast, so especially around
the lenses it looks strange). And of course it will need some
simplifications for smaller sizes (32x32 and 24x24/22x22).

I have took the time to design a set of camera-photo icons for Echo.
They are based on the more recent model of digital camera (Nikon in this
case). I chose that particular model because of simplicity. It may look

a bit darker than expected but anyone is welcome to bring suggestion and
modification.

Great! Only the 24x24 icon looks a little blurry, so I'd just put 1px
wide transparent border to 22x22 one... From my POV it seems like ready
for push to git

Nice icons, nice style (but still not sure how it would play with
Tangoish icons of some apps like Pidgin).

Sorry to say but it looks like all images are either to gray or to
dark. none of them looks like a camera..

Take a look at the google images [1] for camera's and base it on one of those.
And i would go for this [2] one.

perhaps my icon suggestions are a little to realistic for echo but the
way it's going with this icon is just too dark for my taste.

And a little more images the way i like a camera [1] till [8]
I personally like [4] and [5] the most (in appearance.. i never even
heard of that brand). 4 with the cleanness of 5 might be the perfect
combination.

Maybe they're too dark but icons are too small to show photo-realistic
things. Icons should be only symbols.

Even than they are to dark. making the symbols lighter would be best..
and the small icons (16x16 and 22x22) can be symbols indeed.. the
bigger ones can have more details and could be (my opinion) more
realistic than the ones posted so far.

Of course higher size = more details, but remember - icon must be
readable at all.
