ncurses fails on AIX 5.2

I don't quite understand the problem/fix here. I have a AIX 5.3 system
and I just hit the SAME error as the OP on ncurses-5.6. So, I masked
5.6 and 5.5 configured fine. Should ncurses-5.6 work on AIX 5.3 as is?
Or should we remove --with-shared from the configure call?
