Writing CD is driving me crazy.using xcdroast

Strange. A "blank CD" usually does not contain a filesystem. Therefore
it cannot be mounted and does not appear on your desktop. Only media
with filesystems are auto-mounted.

Example, please. If you view the right-click properties of the CD image
on the desktop, what information do you get? What does "mount" show
about the mounted filesystem?

Blank CD/DVD here is shown on the desktop as "Blank ...". Certainly not
mounted, however. No filesystem => not mounted.

As I said in a previous e-mail I now realize you can't mount a Blank CD.
k3b still works and xcdroast doesn't. Very strange but now I can burn a
CD which is progress. Thanks to all.

KDE offers the possibility of showing un-mounted device icons.

GNOME does, too. As you can see from my follow-up, I just forgot
that it's F8/F9+ or so.

It should appear in all desktops.* It works also in gnome.* KDE Lets you know via the What do you want to do? Options, burn audio k3b, burn data w k3b, etc.
