Replace the "X" with either 1, 2 or 3.

It's actually quite easy, I just need my right hand and nothing else.
This is freely configurable, you can write all the keyboard commands
on your own and navigate as you like.

Well I will DEFINITELY be looking into this just like I did when I first

Well, it's text-based menu driven, e.g., you use the cursor keys or VI
command keys (hjkl), messages can be displayed in threads, etc. Not mouse
oriented, but still not _that_ primitive.

It's probably not something many people would pick up today, but it's got
real advantages if you need them. It's incredibly flexible, especially for
handling huge numbers of messages. It's almost impossible to inadvertently
open a bad URL, since they're displayed for you in text mode; but you can
view HTML mail if you wish.

I've been using mutt for years as my only email client, and I can tell you
from personal experience that mutt is _much_ faster to get around in and
read and process mail than one with a gui. In fact, that's it's chief
selling point.
The downside of mutt is that it has a rather steep learning curve, but that
only lasts a lil while, and it doesn't have built in filtering; you have to
filter your mail on the server side, or with a program like procmail. Some
might say you can't read html and see pictures inline, but I think that's a
plus!

I brought up that i wanted to get into programming and which would
be the best language
for a noob, self taught, like myself, they recommened python because
it is simple to learn and it teaches programming concepts, etc
i went with their advice and went with python 3. Iam currently
reading

And it has by far the best threading I've seen in my whole life.

There are a lot of filters; maildrop, mailfilter.. Though procmail
seems not to be maintained anymore, I'm using it, because I have
experience in writing procmail recipes and have been using it all my
life. You can feed your mail into perl/python/whatever-scripts
directly from procmail.
My incoming mailchain is fetchmail -> procmail -> perl/CRM114 -> mutt.
F*ck me, writing all this makes me realize that I'm getting old :-)

For those who have 'simple' (mostly text) mail needs I can
still recommend mutt.
At work it was handy to filter and stream incoming mail into
diferent mailboxes and I used fetchmail -> procmail -> mutt in
a postfix context.
Now I am retired I have simple mail needs and I just use the
built in pop3 and smtp facilities of mutt.
And nothing beats mutt in ease of use and versatility once you
are used to it.
