Hi all,

FC17 does not exist in the installation option "askmethod." how we can
install it via network?

I have not tried this.... But....

http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/17/html/Installation_Guide/ch-Installation_Phase_2-x86.html

Tells all the commands needed to install via NFS, HTTP, and FTP. Other chapters in
the same document tell you how to prepare the sources. Then there is another chapter
on using PXE if that is an option for you.

From my F17 notes to myself

F17 NFS install as follows
On first screen following boot hit ESC and type "linux
repo=nfsiso:192.168.1.5:/global/db/sw/F17"

Standard NFS install then works cleanly

For other installation methods

boot the netinst.iso image that is in the Fedora repository.
It automatically fetches information from the mirrorlists.
If you want to override the default mirrorlist useage:
1) boot netint.iso
2) hit <tab> quickly on the grub screen
3) edit the command and add:
"inst.repo=http://<site>/<path_to_os>"
where <site> is the mirror/server you want to use, and
<path_to_os> is usually
"pub/fedora/linux/releases/17/Everything/<arch>/os"

<arch> is one of "i686" or "x86_64"

Hope This Helps

I've tested this way. The problem is that the installation hangs the
CD / DVD installation. With the method "askmethod" I started up the
installation and after initiation could remove the boot media and use
it on another machine.

Have not tested this way. I do this and I report here.

Thanks

That does
sound like a mistake, but I know that the network install CD
definitely works as I have used it for both a fresh install and
to update from 16. Due to the changes made to the Linux
directory usage from Fedora 16 to 17 I'd recommend this method.

All credit to the Fedora 17 team, I have it working well on a PC
and a Netbook. I would like to see some tools to simplify grub2
configuration, but that's not a problem, it's just a little bit
more complicated to configure grub2.

Hmmm

Not tried that !

At some earlier Fx releases you "had" to remove the media to
get it to use the network

I have the boot stage on a USB stick

Aside

I have only installed F17 once, fully updated it and
installed all the repos and apps I require and then cloned
the partition[s] to other disks.

For my simple requirements this made life a lot easier and quicker
A dump/restore of a fully configured unmounted F17 partition to
an other partition on a different drive takes
about 2minutes 30sec (SSD to SSD)
Then you need to conquer grub2 !
I have a write up if anyone is interested

Versions prior to FC17, using the "askmethod" worked very well.
Started up the machine with the netinstall CD and typed at the prompt:
boot: linux askmethod. After you choose the media source (if NFS)
anaconda was already loaded on the remote machine (I think) and I
could eject the CD and to install another machine. In FC17'm using:
boot: linux repo = nfs: 192.168.1.1 :/ fedora. It works, but can not
remove the media from the CD / DVD, which is too bad because 30 medias
need installation.

Thanks
