Windows seemed to think that there was available space, but then,
that's windows :-) The mfg in this case (Puget Systems) is pretty good
about following instructions, but again, trust but verify.

I didn't know about ctl-alt-f2. I'tt try that for a check. Thanks.

Well, it was me, although not in the definition of GB. It turns out
that the problem was that I was attempting to create new partitions
within an allocated partition, sda4. After all, it said "free" :-).
Removing that partition permitted me to complete the allocation.
