Doc,

That comment really doesn't apply to this discussion as nobody is talking about the backspace button being used. But thanks for
the information as I didn't even know you could do that.

Kevin

Mine was set to 2. This is the first time I have even looked at it.
Yet, clicking the back button still works. What does not work is
if I right click on the back button, and select the oldest page visited.
It refuses to go back that far.

The thing is the backspace on FF in my F17 works as it should and the
browser.backspace_action is set to 2. One more theory shot down in
flames.

What I find interesting is that when this isn't working for me it appears that FireFox has cached the webpage that I'm currently on
more than once. I see this by holding down the back button and can see the same page listed multiple times (which means that when I
click the back button I'm essentially going "back" to the same page as far as page history is concerned). Usually it's only cached
twice but sometimes it's multiple times. Hmm.

If you have a website cached more than once they are different in some way..

Often, that's down to sites that redirect you from one page to where
they want you to go, in a bad way (e.g. reload the new page at the prior
address, but there's other techniques that do the same thing). Making
it virtually impossible to go backwards, unless you can go back in your
history, directly, to a page before their redirect started. Leaving you
with virtually no alternative than to navigate via the links written in
their pages.
