I am sure by the time you are fully comfortable
with everything "F13",
F14 will be coming out
So Don't relax too much

I have installed Fedora 13 now, the first login and updates are next.
But just to verify, I tried booting again with the USB stick with
askmethod parameter ... and now it works as expected! I have no idea why
it did not work the first couple of times I tried. I must be doing
something wrong then.

BTW, erasing the "vmlinux" line after pressing TAB and replacing it with
"linux askmethod" does not work, it just gives back the boot choices.

Regards.

It is usually the interesting ways that it can be installed or updated
(i.e. without using CDs or DVDs) that attracts me. Otherwise I am more
or less okay with Fedora. I use Debian as routine, however.

Regards.

When I wrote that, I was not thinking properly. The beauty of net
install is that the packages are downloaded from the repository and the
most recent ones are installed. So after installation there are no
updates to do!

When I use the "askmethod" option, the installer wants me to enter the
full URL of the Fedora repository. Can it not show me a list of mirrors
(based on my IP perhaps) and let me select one of those? Having to type
in the full URL is quite a hassle, not to mention the fact that a user
may not have access to a browser during that step.

Regards.

Excellent point!!
I think you out to file a bug against Anacond
at https://bugzilla.redhat.com

As you discovered in your previous replies, askmethod works just as
expected to, and as your already doing it. Guess the installer doesn't
100% boot up as suppose to, as I've had to restart it couple times
before as well. But just appending askmethod as you were doing is more
than enough and the correct way of doing it. If it doesn't take like it
did with you before, try asknetwork, maybe add another option if you
need it. I do askmethod all the time too and mostly works like it
suppose to.

Good luck in your install....

Very true - however if I want to install on several machines then this
method is very download heavy since the rpms have to be downloaded for
every one of the installs. Instead I used the mock/pungi toolchain to
rebuild the DVD install iso - that way I have to download current rpms
just once - and then then ise the DVD iso to install on all the
machines, none of which then need to download updates (well apart from
a few that have reached the mirrors between creating the rebuild and
the install).

YMMV
