Default Need help installing ASUS audio drivers

uname -a
Linux NN.FRONT 2.6.33.5-124.fc13.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Jun 11 09:38:12 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

My M4A78L-M came with linux audio drivers on the CD but I get many errors trying to compile them and I don't know which of these are killers and which are spurious.* The disk comes with an install.sh that I'm trying to run but it always ends in this:

cp snd-page-alloc.o snd-pcm.o snd-timer.o snd.o /lib/modules/0.0.0/misc
cp: cannot stat `snd-page-alloc.o': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `snd-pcm.o': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `snd-timer.o': No such file or directory

cp: cannot stat `snd.o': No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [_modinst__] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/nck/audiodrvrs/alsa-driver-1.0.18rc3/acore'
make: *** [install-modules] Error 1
Alsa driver compiling failed!

are you sure alsa isnt a deprecated audio subsystem?
PulseAudio has been working for me since fc11 (on fc12 now).

just wondering, ...

Alsa certainly isn't deprecated, it provides the audio drivers that
pulseaudio needs to work. Pulseaudio is just another software layer
between you and alsa. No alsa = no pulseaudio.
