Default ATI Mobility Radeon 5450 driver and Fedora 12 X86_64

Hi Jatin,

I don't know anybody who has any success with ATI driver with FC12.
check out these links,
http://gofedora.com/fedora-12-ati-catalyst-drivers/comment-page-1/
http://gofedora.com/news-will-ati-catalyst-drivers-9-12-work-with-fedora-12/
http://fedorasolved.org/video-solutions/radeon-xorg-tweaks

You may want to try the mesa driver. I have ATI mobility Radeon HD 4570 & the mesa driver works with FC12 on my
dell studio 15.
I have not tried with games or full HD movies, but the desktop effect, 3d etc works fine.

Before installing the mesa driver, you need to uninstall the ATI driver first.
Please be informed that the mesa driver is experimental & may contain bugs.
yum install mesa-dri-drivers-experimental& then reboot.
*
Thanks,

Biswajit Ghosal

Using Fedora comes with a price. Fedora uses a newer release of Xorg
which the proprietary ATI drivers are incompatible with. You have to
make a choice, do you want 3D or the latest and greatest?

As I understand it, your card is the latest chipset from ATI.
mesa-dri-drivers-experimental supports 3D for chipsets up to RV 770. The
development for the open drivers are fast enough that I would expect
support for your chipset to be available within another release cycle.

I own a ATI 4870, and I was in the same boat early last year but now
every thing works. I would suggest either use the open drivers, forego
3D and wait for support or stay with F11 until ATI releases binary
drivers compatible with Fedora's Xorg version. But if 3D is too
important for you, using Ubuntu is your final option.

Hope this is clearer. Good Luck and hope you stay with Fedora.

Fedora 13 is only a month away! That might happen, but I would expect
improvement part way through the release or in Fedora 14. Please bear in
mind this is all speculation based on my previous experience with
bleeding edge hardware.

You can try following the developer mailing list for the radeon drivers
if you want to follow when your chipset has full 3D support.
