Define "latest plugin"... which version of Ubuntu are you running?

Which version of Java? (type "java -version" and tell us the 3 or more
lines you get). Is it OpenJDK(/JRE)? The standard Sun JDK(/JRE)?

When you mean plugin... you are talking Firefox-plugin (file in
/usr/lib/firefox/pluginsc)? Or do you mean the JRE itself?

With a bit more precision, we should be able to help you.
