Default Detect display rotation - Samsung SyncMaster 940B

Hiyas,

is it possible to detect the orientation of a Samsung SyncMaster 940B via
software under Linux? The manual says, that this works with Windows and I
know that I can rotate the screen with
xrandr -o left
but is it also possible to do this automatically when I rotate the display?
Is there maybe a tool to dump the raw data that the monitor provides via ddc
to see, whether or not something changes there?

Regards,
Till
