Default /etc/profile and Xvfb question

As I'm still battling with Xvfb usage in Java's Wonderland and there are
a couple of us diehard RedHat users trying to resolve this problem, I
noticed these commented out lines in /etc/profile. Two things appear
like they could be made to happen, so what do they do, and what happens
when enabled?? I tried un-commenting them all at once, and was locked
out of X. That is not what I was hoping for! <grins> So, if someone
knows, I would like to know. Rahul, you grok this?? Ric

# Start the X virtual frame buffer (Xvfb)
#if [ -f /usr/bin/Xvfb ]; then
#/usr/bin/Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1024x768x16
#fi

# Set the DISPLAY variable for the X virtual frame buffer (Xvfb)
#export DISPLAY=localhost:1.0

RedHat's honor is on the line here, this is a quest! Lots of PR value in
finding a solution to the problem... lots. Ric

What, exactly, is the problem you are having with Java + Xvfb ?

Back in my previous employer, we have headless servers on the data
center running Java applications. Some part of the applications
required loading / resizing / converting / adding watermark to image
files ... and for that, Xvfb was needed since the servers were
headless.

First it was not finding the fonts. Fixed that. Now I get an error
message saying the access was denied.

What OS/Distro were you running?? It seems the Ubuntu crowd has no
problems. The diehard rpm fans are having a problem with it. With my
luck, the darn thing will work right after I hit sent on this! That's
why I was wondering about the settings in /etc/profile ,if that had/has
anything to do with it. If anyone has Ubuntu installed, what does
your /etc/profile file have these items set to?? Ric
