RPM builds and Vendor tag
I'm looking for some direction on using the vendor tag in RPMs that my
organization is re-rolling. From: Maximum RPM: Taking the Red Hat Package Manager to the Limit The vendor Tag The vendor tag is used to define the name of the entity that is responsible for packaging the software. Normally, this would be the name of an organization. Here's an example: Vendor: White Socks Software, Inc. My question is, that if I simple re-roll the RPM to change the dist tag (no spec file changes or install changes); should I also change the vendor tag to my organization? If it's for Fedora, we don't set it in the spec, it's set by the build system. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#rpmlint -J -- in your fear, seek only peace in your fear, seek only love -d. bowie -- packaging mailing list packaging@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/packaging |

It is worth pointing out that the Vendor tag is optional in modern RPM. ~spot -- packaging mailing list packaging@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/packaging |

True, but it is also optional in rather ancient versions of rpm :) --- commit f640acd1b4b6e5f149de40c6200d6ff6fc1a87d4 Author: marc <devnull@localhost> Date: Tue Jan 13 19:56:18 1998 +0000 Remove requirement of Distribution, Vendor, and Packager --- You're probably thinking of Group which was a required tag until rpm >= 4.6.0. - Panu - -- packaging mailing list packaging@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/packaging |
