Default Introduction

Hi Pierre,
I just got started with Ubuntu/Edubuntu a couple of years ago. *I use computers running the Ubuntu operating system in my classroom:*two computers are built into students 4-person tables, part of a bigger project, "Growing Communities of Scientists". *A multi-purpose application I use on these computers is a program called,*CmapTools. *While this application is not open source it is free to non-business users. *Another useful thing about it is that you can use it just on your local computer or you can go online (via cmaptools) to online cmapservers and create concept maps and other kinds of bubble maps there. *These maps stored in the online repositories can be of course accessed by any computer connected to the internet that has CmapTools installed. *I've set up one of these cmapservers for my districts (and my!) use. *The maps linked to below are on this server. *A further cool thing about these online bubble maps is that you can have multiple people open the same cmap file at a time and thus the collaboration happens in real time--one person moves a bubble on their screen and everyone sees it move on theirs! *Here are some example maps my students have made.
Double Bubble map is used to compare 2 things:http://cmap.mpls.k12.mn.us/rid=1H5PDZZVC-1JX6RZN-BG/Jaime--MitosisMeiosis.cmaphttp://cmap.mpls.k12.mn.us/rid=1H3GJFJC4-F3B2DP-9V/DOUBLE%20BUBBLE%20MAP.cmap
Triple bubble map is used to compare 3 things:http://cmap.mpls.k12.mn.us/rid=1H3K01VDT-C695JV-341N/Tripplebubblemap.cmap*
A concept map is used to show the conceptual relationships between vocabulary words (generally nouns). *As a teacher it helps me know what students understand and what they don't get, for the person making a concept map, it helps you be explicit about your knowledge and clearly shows you what you don't get yet. (the following map, for example, doesn't have all branches connected--the student who made it didn't get the relationships between all areas of knowledge):http://cmap.mpls.k12.mn.us/rid=1H3QYM2HL-NL23WY-MG/genectics%20concept%20map.cmap
I thought you might be interested in this program since it does run on Ubuntu, is freely available to students, and students can use it in creative ways to represent knowledge in non-linear ways.
Have fun,David

Default Introduction

Hello,

My name is Martha and I would like to become a member of your team.

I've thought about contributing to the Fedora Project for a while and
although my background is in Computer Science, I'd like to learn about
design.

I can't say that I have any real experience but I'm looking forward to
learn to use the OS design tools available in Fedora. I've used some
design tools before for recreation and took a course in GUI design in
college.

In the beginning I think my contributions would mainly be small tasks
like: https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/111
(which BTW I could start working on if that sounds good)

Looking forward to learning from all your cool work,

Martha Benitez

Cool, this is a good place to learn more about design! Having a computer
science background is also going to help you quite a bit, I think.

Cool, please feel free! Do you have a Fedora account in the Fedora
account system yet? You can create one at
http://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts - once your account is ready,
you can log into our ticket system in the upper right of the ticket you
just posted (it's a small 'login' link in the upper right) and then
assign the ticket to yourself in the 'reassign to' field (type in your
Fedora account name.)

We do have updated designs for Fedora 13 that Alexander created:

http://inkscaper.fedorapeople.org/Fedora13/media-artwork/

So you might want to use his work as a base and create additional spin
artwork for the spins Alexander's work didn't cover.

That's what most of us are doing here, learning and having fun time
together.

If you didn't saw it the past days, here was a talk about the "default"
sleeves:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/design-team/2010-April/002378.html
The spin sleeves most likely will be based on those, with a few
customization added.

Also, this is the place where the graphics are going to be uploaded:

Default Introduction

Hello Design Team!
My name is Daniel Berryhill and I'd like to start contributing to Fedora in some small way. I owe a lot to this humble platform and I feel it's time I gave back to the community. I cut my teeth on the Gimp many years ago when I switched to Linux (after Windows slowly killed my laptop). I am a very skilled photo/image editor and have recently learned how to use that other Adobe program as well. I am familiar with Inkscape, but not to the same degree (something I'm working on right now . I have some design experience including button designs, web graphics and logo creation. My programming skills are very rudimentary; I am proficient in HTML (though I am still in the process of wrapping my head around CSS) and I have a very basic understanding of Java.
Anyways, all that is to say that I'm very excited to contribute in any way. I know I can handle some of the “Quick & Easy” projects in the Design Service Queue, but I admit I'm mostly here to absorb what I can of this groups general knowledge and hopefully become a better contributor further down the road.

Pleased to meet you,
Daniel

Default Introduction

Hi all,

I wanted to introduce myself and express interest in joining the Fedora Project design team.
My name is Gabriel Alvarado, I'm a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and though my degree is in animation I've been leaning towards getting into the design side of things lately.

I've done some freelance work doing logos and illustrations and would be interested in pitching in with some of the iconography design.

My online portfolio can be found at www.mekanismo.com

Regards,
Gabriel
