is it possible to extract/export the CA certificate stored on a 389
directory server? If so, how so?

# certutil -L -d /etc/dirsrv/slapd-YOURINSTANCE

Note the nickname of your CA

# certutil -L -d /etc/dirsrv/slapd-YOURINSTANCE -n "nickname_of_CA" -a

oh wow! didn't think to look there... serves me right for assuming it
was stored in the DIT somewhere...
