Default Interest in Cell architecture SIG

Dear all,
I have mutilated Jakub Jelinek's excellent binutils and gcc packages to
create binutils-spu and gcc-spu. Both mutant packages need a
significant amount of polishing. However, I'm wondering if others are
interested in a Fedora tool chain for the Cell processor? I'm primarily
interested in the PS3 architecture.
So
(a) Are you interested in a Fedora Architecture SIG for Cell who would
test and maintain a SPU tool chain, and
(b) Are you interested in taking the route I've taken in constructing a
tool chain for Fedora (GCC 4.3 based) rather than supporting the IBM
Cell SDK (GCC 4.1 based)?

FWIW, I have access to an IBM LS20/QS21 machine (4 Cell cores and 2 AMD Opteron
cores) running Fedora 8, so if you want something tested, I can help.

R.

I'd rather do this under the PPC SIG, rather than create a whole new
one just for Cell.

Now, providing a whole new toolchain might be possible but you'd have
to make sure it doesn't conflict with the stock toolchains.

That makes sense.

At the moment I'm just looking at providing tools prefixed with "spu-"
such as spu-as, spu-ld, spu-gcc etc... I don't expect conflicts as
these packages are based on the current gcc versions in Fedora (with the
same patches).

Yes, indeed I'm interested.

It would be really good to have toolchain support in Fedora for the Cell
architecture.

Right now we are initially trying to get libspe2 as a package into Fedora.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=442507

As soon as we have this package approved we may try to get others
included as well. I'll talk with our maintainers and let you know about
the results.
