Any suggestions as to a compatible video card for Ubuntu so that it
works as a PVR with Myth TV with no issues. Something available from
Future Shop (Canada) perhaps?

Hi Keith Clark

Do you search for a digital DVB tuner? Do you wish cable, satellite or
terrestrial? Hardware compatibility list for DVB tuners can be found
at the LinuxTV wiki[0]

I am not located in Canada and don't know Future Shop, so you need to
check yourself if they offer the cards from LinuxTV wiki.

I'd say the WinTV -Go Plus should do the job, but don't quote me on
that. Check the MythTV Hardware Guide.

http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-3.html#video_capture_device

I use two PVR-150s which I don't see for sale at FS.

I've also used a crappy ATI TV-Wonder VE. Don't get one of those.

Thanks David.

Yes, I also have an ATI TV Wonder Pro and it doesn't work at all. Ok, I
will look into what you have chosen.

Thanks!

Keith

Hi Keith. Glad to help. I'm partial to the Hauppage cards, but really
the best advice to give you is to make sure you get a card which does
hardware encoding so the load is taken off your system. My PVR was a
P3-800 for a while and it had no problem streaming to multiple frontends
while simultaneously recording two shows. With that ATI card I
mentioned (which is a frame grabber) the system was at almost 100% CPU
while recording ONE show.

How do you set up a tv card in Mythbuntu? Does anyone know?

So, about that TV card!

I realize this isn't strictly a Debian-related question, as I use Ubuntu on my HTPC, but I'm sure it is the same on a Debian system. Is there an easy way to get the machine to autodetect my antenna? Is there a command to get it to output the name of the device? (The jacks for the antenna are built into my Nvidia graphics card.)

Thanks in advance!
