Default Python 2.7 regression bugs

One of my packages is affected by a Python 2.7 regression. See bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=627557

This has been fixed in upstream Python, but the fix isn't in a released
version of Python.

I'd love not to have to craft a workaround, so is this bug likely to be
fixed? Or am I expected to craft such a workaround?

What is the policy for such issues? Do fixes get backported or do the
Python packagers wait for upstream?
