Default Cannot upgrade from Rel 7 to Rel 8

Hello,

Last week I tried to upgrade from Rel. 7 to Rel.
8. System got stuck while checking for dependencies. Progress bar goes
almost to 100% and then freezes there (+12 hours). As the box is
relatively well configured (Intel Core Duo, 2GBytes RAM) and as I don't
have problems with Rel. 7, I guess it must be a scalability problem
with the dependency checking in Rel. 8.

If someone had the same problem and was able to fix it, please
suggestions (other than simply reinstalling everything) will be really
welcome.

Best regards and happy 2008 for all !!!

Casimiro

Take a look at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=372011

As can be read, the Fedoraunity re-spin did it for me...

The Fedora Unity Re-Spin at http://spins.fedoraunity.org/spins will fix
this.

Mount the original DVD somewhere, and use:

jigdo-lite --scan /mount/point/of/original/dvd
http://jigdo.fedoraunity.org/templates/20071218/Fedora-Unity-20071218-8.jigdo

As written in that bug report too, the update image at:
http://katzj.fedorapeople.org/updates-f8-yumloop.img
can also be used. See:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/Updates
for instructions on how to use update images.

The respin already incorporates this update, so it is not necessary if you use
the respin.

Thanks for all who helped me. And you all excuse-me for not going into
bugzilla first place...

After upgrading, there were a little issue with PAM. As I use encrypted
fs, I had to save modified files in /etc/pam.d and restore the
*.rpmsave files.

Best regards,

Casimiro
