As you may have noticed, the RHEL 6 Beta released today. For more
details about RHEL 6, look here:
http://press.redhat.com/2010/04/21/red-hat-enterprise-linux-6-beta-available-today-for-public-download/
But, I'm here to let you know some of the specific changes of relevance
for EPEL.
Quite a few source rpms were added to RHEL 6 which were previously in
EPEL. Here's the list:
In addition, there are some packages which were present in RHEL 5, but
are absent in RHEL 6. Most of these packages are accounted for because
of the dropping of gtk+ support, updating of configuration tools,
standardization on hunspell, move from scim to ibus, or the move to
KDE4. Some are just obsolete, and others were removed for space
concerns. Some of them might be interesting for EPEL:

yikes - that's a bummer...
How do you get a package like that into EPEL?
New review request?

At least it wasn't just me.

It's in Fedora so in the first instance contacting the Fedora
Maintainers and getting an EL-6 branch...

Yup! And probably wouldn't be _too_ difficult. I imagine you could
just take the F13 (or whatever EL6 is based off of) SRPMS and rebuild
'em.

RHEL6 cotains gcc-4.4. what a bad news to me.
We need gcc-4.5 for lambda.

Considering that gcc 4.5 was released a few days ago, not surprising. * I'll take cadaver from rhel5 if he Fedora owner isn't interested, I use it a lot in rhel.*

How sure are you that the packages that you list have really been
removed from RHEL6? The two that I am most concerned about are exim and
cyrus-imapd which constitute my entire email system! Neither of these
are listed in the RHEL6 release notes in the Discontinued Packages
section and nor are they in the Deprecated packages section.
And nss_ldap looks like another strange one to remove.

Makes more sense once you see the stuff about it's replacement.

Well, at least there is a replacement.
I'm more interested in the deprecated drivers, including aacraid,
aic7xxx, and sym53c8xx. I have fairly new servers that use some of
these (and AFAIK servers using these SCSI chips are still being sold).
