One user/firefox uses 45% of your server's resources - auts ;-)

If your all users run flash/streaming movie based web pages all the
time, you really should try running FF/Flash/VLC in thin client itself
(ltsp-localapps) - if your thin clients are good ones for doing that.

Have you already included the

LDM_DIRECTX=true

parameter under the Default section of your lts.conf file?

I've got a similar setup to yours and have firefox set up as a local app. My lts.conf is posted here:

The accounts are sourced from Active Directory via Winbind. Users have
a local desktop and a symlink pointing to a network folder which has
been mounted via nfs under /mnt/ALLSTUDENTS/username

Hi Joseph,

I didn't see your lts.conf when I followed the link you sent me, but I
did find this

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/LTSPLocalAppsFirefox

I take it that you wrote that howto. Any idea weather it works under
8.04? I understand local app support is a newer feature.

Thanks!

John

I guess I read that as 45% of the resources being used were being used

auts indeed!

I am using NTAVO 6030 thin clients which use shared memory. I am not
sure whether they are really good candidates for this or not. Perhaps
someone else on the list can let me know if they've gotten local apps
working well with these clients.

Also I am currently running 8.04 since it's the current LTS. Am I
going to have to upgrade to be able to run local apps?

Hi John,

Local apps only works on 9.04 or later.

Here's my lts.conf

[Default]
LDM_DIRECTX = True
XRANDR_DISABLE = True
X_RAMPERC = 80
X_MODE_0 = 1280x1024
LOCAL_APPS = True

LOCAL_APPS_MENU = True
LOCAL_APPS_MENU_ITEMS = firefox
SEARCH_DOMAIN = 192.168.0.1 || Change this for your own network
DNS_SERVER = 92.168.0.1 || Change this for your own network
RCFILE_01 = /etc/init.d/chmod-resolv.sh
