I don't known if it is a planned downtime, do you know ?
mmm
I was going to report a aptitude bug:
aptitude changelog vim
Couldn't fetch URL http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main///_/changelog
But now I think it is a packages.debian.org bug, there is a metapackage for this ?
Thanks !

works here. If you still need it, I could mail you the output.

In between there is the changelog's text. I will send it to you
privately (rather long, not interesting for the list archives).
Cheers,

I get a similar result as you. Sorry for the noise. Maybe lenny is not
too far of from sid...
Similarly for unstable's
LANG=C aptitude changelog vim=1:7.1.293-3
while lenny's
LANG=C aptitude changelog vim=1:7.1-266+1
works.
Could be aptitude is using any type of cache for url (http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main///_/changelog) ?

This is your problem.

This is a stupid error message.

There is no archive named "sid". Try "unstable" instead.

Agreed. No one wants that, rather something like
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/v/vim/vim_7.1.293-3/changelog
>> E: Couldn't find a changelog for vim/sid
>> -------------
>
> There is no archive named "sid". Try "unstable" instead.
This also does not work:
/-----------
~$ LANG=C aptitude changelog vim/unstable
Unable to find an archive "unstable" for the package "vim"
Unable to find an archive "unstable" for the package "vim"
Ign ChangeLog of vim
E: Couldn't fetch URL
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main///_/changelog
E: Couldn't find a changelog for vim/unstable
-----------
I did try several variants before I posted, but didn't list them all....
Looking for lenny or testing also reveals nothing, but directly querying
lenny's version number does:
/-----------
19:20:20-johannes@e13-v21:~$ LANG=C aptitude changelog vim=1:7.1-266+1
Get:1 ChangeLog of vim [217kB]
Fetched 217kB in 1s (123kB/s)
-----------
Directly querying unstable's package number does not work:
/-----------
19:28:57-johannes@e13-v21:~$ LANG=C aptitude changelog vim=1:7.1.293-3
Ign ChangeLog of vim
E: Couldn't fetch URL
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main///_/changelog
E: Couldn't find a changelog for vim=1:7.1.293-3
-----------
I guess there might be something wrong with either aptitude or the
package repository.

Do you have unstable in your sources.list?

If aptitude knows the version number, it can guess the changelog URL
even if it can't find the package in its database; that may be what's
happening.

Hm, odd. It works fine for me.
