Take a look at muCommander[1]! It's a file manager written in Java, and
it claims that it can access NFS (and other) shares. Haven't tried it
from Windows though.

Why not use something real on the clients? That gives you more and better
options than Samba...

Because some enterprise NEED propretary software which do not exist
under Linux? And they even can not update to "Micro$oft Winsuck Fiasco
Ultimate"(tm) since new licenses cost over 5000 Euro per workplace?
(happen here in Strasbourg to some Enterprises)
Where I had to install a FileServer, PostgreSQL and Webserver and on the
FileServer an DomU containing a "WInXP based proprietary database".

That's what wine is for. These days you have to go out of your way to find
software that won't run in wine.
