Huh! All you need is perlmagick.
e.g: Simple convert:

#!/usr/bin/perl
#
# Overall demo of the major PerlMagick methods.
#
use Image::Magick;

$p = new Image::Magick;
$p->Read("kim-mathematics.gif");
$p->Write("math.jpg");
