Thanks I have mplayer-gui installed now, but I get a new error when I
launch gmplayer -> "gmplayer: relocation error: gmplayer: symbol
codec_wav_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file
libavformat.so.52 with link time reference"

Fine then but better if give some explanation about the steps you did so
other users in your situation can benefit from it.

Oh, this has to be:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=603506

Read carefully the bug report and if it matches with your situation,
proceed with the recommended steps and as always, if in doubt for what to
do, simply ask.

P.S. For the next time, think twice before installing and mixing packages
from third-party repos ;-)

Greetings,

" Fine then but better if give some explanation about the steps you
did" -> I think after your last commands "dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/mplayer-gui_2%3a1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1_i386.deb"
and "LANG=C dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/mplayer-gui_2%3a1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1_i386.deb"

"My suggestion: Either upgrade to mplayer in experimental or revert to
ffmpeg libraries from squeeze." -> How to do that?

But you got more errors for different packages :-?

Well, if it's fine now, perfect.

> "My suggestion: Either upgrade to mplayer in experimental or revert to

First we have to ensure about the origin for the related packages, which
according to this¹ report, are the following:

libavcodec52
libavformat52
libpostproc51
libswscale0

So run:

LANG=C dpkg -l | grep -i -e libavcodec52 -e libavformat52 -e libpostproc51 -e libswscale0

And send the output.

^^^^

Do you notice the "-dmo" prefix available in all packages? It means they
come from Debian Multimedia repository so as instructed at the bug report,
you have to replace those packages with the ones from Debian official
repository to solve the problem.
