Default Trouble getting apt-get Default-Release to work

This problem occurs on a Debian install predominantly intended to
follow the Stable release.

Some packages on the system need to be upgraded to Testing.

A file has been added to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d called 88ccc

$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/88ccc
//
APT:efault-Release "stable";
//

And /etc/apt/sources.list set to:

deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
#deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free

deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
#deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free

deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ squeeze-updates main contrib non-free

When the two testing lines in sources.list above are uncommented, a
whole bunch of updates from testing show up when running: sudo
apt-get upgrade

I would have expected those packages to stay at the Stable release.

Is this intended? Will some or all packages be upgraded to Testing
regardless of the Default-Release setting?

Thanks,
Chris.

Hi Chris,

Not sure if you solved it in the meantime, but a few tips:

- always run 'apt-get update' after changing sources.list
- check the output of 'apt-cache policy', first without any package and
then for the specific packages that give you trouble, to find out what
APT thinks of your sources and preferences.

Hope this helps,
Andrei
