Could you share the output of
dpkg -l mysql* |grep ^i

Sure would like to get mysql running in one of my squeeze upgraded
partitions rather then jump into something new. I have been using mysql
since the mid 90's and I never had these problems until squeeze
went stable (sic).

Thanks

Thanks Michael, I have all of your packages at the same versions you
have except mysql-server-5.1. Aptitude can not install it because of

wtopa@dj:~$ bugs mysql-server-5.1
Reading package fields... Done
Reading package status... Done
Retrieving bug reports... Done
Parsing Found/Fixed information... Done
serious bugs of mysql-server-5.1 (-> ) <unfixed>
#609537 - /etc/init.d/mysql stop leaves a process but exits with 0 status
Summary:
mysql-server-5.1(1 bug)

NOTE; bugs is an alias for apt-listbugs

The odd thing about the bug is that there is NO
/etc/init.d/mysql and the bugs exists on all 3 partitions.
( Squeeze, Wheezy and Sid) and has been there since April.

I think I will purge the Mysql packages & start from scratch.

Thanks for the reply and help, Michael

Wayne

Thanks for the reply Roger.

I tried installing postgres-8.4 on Sid but it too has a problem :-(

grave bugs of postgresql-8.4 (-> ) <marked as done in some version>
#632028 - postgresql 8.4.8 regression - failure to handle char(4) =
bpchar (Fixed: postgresql-8.4/8.4.8-0squeeze2)
serious bugs of postgresql-8.4 (-> ) <unfixed>
#630569 - php5-pgsql and postgresql >= 8.4 seem to collude never to
close idle persistent connections
Summary:
postgresql-8.4(2 bugs)

I can't win for losing.
