fax server
Hi,
I'm currently testing a fax server setup with hylafax but dumbfounded when i found that the open source version does not support Primary Rate Interface (PRI) despite the hardware capability Refer to*http://www.ifax.com/products/hylafax/hylafax.html#PS_HylaFAX_Comparison*(click on the "Hylafax Comparison" tab) So now, other than Hylafax, is there any other open source fax server that is available on Debian Lenny that supports PRI? The PRI that I mentioned is*http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_Rate_Interface Thanks for any info. -- Regards, Umarzuki Mochlis http://debmal.my |

Novell and RedHat charge for their dstros that include "better/more" capabilities. Apparently Hylafax does the same. How do you think these people feed their families? Considering the potential user base for fax server software of this nature, I'm surprised there is a FOSS version at all. And frankly, someone blasting faxes out of 24 lines shouldn't be expecting a free ride (especially if you're planning on fax spamming!). -- Stan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I'm sure you won't find any other free and open source fax-server solution fith PRI support. Last summer I needed fax server and after some research, Hylafax was only normal/serious option, currently it seems that there are no alternatives..

Nope, Enterprise Edition only supports rpm distributions (eh).
But on the other hand, you might find third party module (or something) for hylafax that implemets PRI feature. Exactly. *Tho I'm not really familliar with Hylafax architechture (only installed once). If hylafax open source edition supports third patry module, I'm sure there will be ones for PRI support. Thus, if I'm right, you can install Hylafax Open Source edition on debian, and just compile/install/plug third party module. Regards ----------- Roman |

Do you need something special for you PRI line? As long as your hardware is supported by hylafax (active/passive isdn card) you're done. All my faxes are behind ISDN lines (BRI, S/T), while I'm using using analog outputs (with POTS modems) isdn cards should just work. HylaFAX was kinda forked/branched into HylaFAX+, you can also look in there, but AFAIK main difference between both is about how fast are features incorporated into new reelases (while hylafax is more conservative, hylafax+ is more active and adds enhancements quickly). > So now, other than Hylafax, is there any other open source fax server > that is available on Debian Lenny that supports PRI? > > The PRI that I mentioned is > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_Rate_Interface > > Thanks for any info. I'm not sure why that comparative table shows PRI is not compatible with hylafax, but better ask in Hylafax forums/mailing list and tell them the hardware you are wanting to use. They will provide you an accurate response :-) Greetings, -- Camaleón -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
