Default (semi-solved) No hidden/backup files in desktop (GNOME)

Replying to myself:

It's a unsolved GNOME bug dated on 2005 :-/

show hidden files doesn't work on desktop

Good news is that it can be by-passed by clicking -over the desktop- "Ctrl
+H" combo key to show both hidden and backup files/folders.

Bad news is that the setting does not survive between sessions ;-(
