problems with MS life cam VX5000 and V4L
Hello
I am running Lenny. I have a Microsoft Life Cam VX5000 usb camera. This camera works like a charm with skype (v 2.1.0.47), chesse and luvcview. But it doesn't work with ekiga. Each time I run ekiga I get the message: Error while opening video device Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000A moving logo will be transmitted during calls. Notice that you can always transmit a given image or the moving logo by choosing "Picture" as video plugin and "MovingLogo" or "StaticPicture" as device. Your video driver doesn't support the requested video format. Apparently, it is a problem with v4, l: $ v4l-confv4l-conf: using X11 display :0.0 dga: version 2.0X Error of failed request: *XF86DGANoDirectVideoMode**Major opcode of failed request: *136 (XFree86-DGA)**Minor opcode of failed request: *1 (XF86DGAGetVideoLL) **Serial number of failed request: *13**Current serial number in output stream: *13 The uvc module is loaded:$ lsmod | grep uvcuvcvideo * * * * * * * 45800 *0* compat_ioctl32 * * * * *1312 *1 uvcvideovideodev * * * * * * * 27520 *1 uvcvideov4l1_compat * * * * * *12260 *2 uvcvideo, videodevusbcore * * * * * * * 118192 *7 snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,uvcvideo,usbhid,ehci_hcd ,uhci_hcd *Just in case the output of lsusb is: $ lsusbBus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:00dd Microsoft Corp. * * *<----------------------------- VX5000Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 003: ID 045e:0728 Microsoft Corp. * * *<----------------------------- VX5000Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hubBus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 002: ID 045e:0040 Microsoft Corp. Hi!
sorry for answer my own email... but the problem with ekiga was solved installing the libpt-xxx-plugins-v4l2 packages, and choosing the v4l2 plugin*in the ekiga video configuration.
