Default Music Player With Variable Speed

I have extra time on my hands right now (restricted movement after
someone t-boned my car when he thought a red light meant "go") and am
considering setting up a computer for the ballroom dance studio where
I practice. Amarok would be great for them to use to pick playlists
for lessons and parties. The only catch is that there are many times
when an instructor needs to vary the speed of the music.

What programs have people used that they can recommend that are in
Lenny that they have used for audio playback that let them adjust the
speed? It has to be easy to do and needs to be adjustable while
playing. For example, you can change the speed of the clip in
Audacity, but that doesn't help because they'd have to stop the lesson
while making that adjustment and many times an instructor doesn't know
ahead of time what pieces will need to be played slowly or how slow
they need to be.

Any suggestions or comments on easy of use on different playback
programs? (Many of us have suggest Amarok make a plugin to do this,
but they don't want to do it, even though they've been told it would
likely be much more widely used than they think.)
