Default The most windows-centric/linux-unfriendly web site yet?

Hi,

I was forwarded this. Please ignore the political content. I tried to
watch the video clip in my totally standard Lenny, with iceweasel

http://www.gratitudecampaign.org/shortmovie.php

and I can't believe the result. The video skips and freezes, the sound
hiccups and repeats like a broken record. It even left the sound system
repeating garbage after I had told iceape to stop and closed the tab.

No hiccuping in IW 3.0.5 and Flash 10.0r15.

I tried to download the clip, but all there is are windows executables
(*.exe) , so I canceled the downloads, but it seems a download continued.

Does anyone know anything about this site? Is it a virus download?
Talk about a hostile web site!

The exe files are self-extracting zip files, simple as that.

$ dir GC*exe
-rw-r--r-- 1 me me 28366848 2009-01-31 19:59 GC Short Movie.exe

$ unzip -v "GC Short Movie.exe"
Archive: GC Short Movie.exe
Length Method Size Ratio Date Time CRC-32 Name

short.mov

-------- ------- --- -------

Interesting, I have the exact same versions.

Ok, good to know that unzip can handle it. Thanks.

What video driver? And CPU/RAM?

I'd have never figured it out either, except I read about it myself
in a mailing list many years ago.

That might be issue. Nvidia legacy driver (I have a
[GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP 8x] per lshw. No longer supported by the
current nvidia drivers. CPU: Pentium M 1.4 GHz, RAM: 2GB.

I don't think the latter two are the problem. The nvidia driver might have
been tickled the wrong way by this video/web site. But I've never seen
this behavior before. This computer is capable of displaying 1080i HDTV
files. I have a WUXGA display (1900 X 1200).

In any case, I extracted the video file from the exe file with unzip and
I can watch it just fine locally. Maybe it was a combination of network
congestion, the video driver and the web site quirk.
