Default 1024 MB RAM viewed as 768

Is it normal for a Linux distro to view 1024 MB RAM as 768 or it's my hardware

umarzuki@eden:~$ free -m
************ total****** used****** free**** shared*** buffers**** cached
Mem:********** 749******* 741********* 8********* 0******** 11******* 226

-/+ buffers/cache:******* 502******* 246
Swap:******** 2196********* 0****** 2196

I'm using Lenny AMD64 on CQ40-115AU

Do you have an onboard video chip? Then some of the memory (256 MB in
your case) will be used as video memory and does not show up in the
memory statisctics.

It is not normal, maybe a part of your RAM is used by the graphics card.
