Default equivalent of xfontsel for fontconfig names

hi guys,

is there any application that can be used for going through a list of
fonts, displaying the glyphs and providing also the fontconfig names in
a way similar to xfontsel?

i.e., i'd love to browse the fonts on my harddrive and after selecting
one of them, getting for example VeraBd.

i know that xfd -fa name can be used for displaying one font a time, but
you have to know the name first...

thanks for info,
lubos
