Honest thoughts are welcome. Thinkpads are just wonderful. However to use the NVidia you'll need either Testing or a mix of Unstable and Testing, either of which entails an awful lot of volatility. FWIW, Fedora 9 Gnome works fine on the T61, but use Fedora 8 if you prefer KDE. --Mike Bird -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? By owners of the company, do you mean Lenovo or their predecessor IBM? I haven't seen a Lenovo Thinkpad. I do have an IBM Thinkpad; the screen died when the tent in which I was sitting was hit by lightening (at least I had metal poles) but at least I was able to retreive the data off the hard drive. The procedure for getting iwlwifi up and running is slightly different from the older driver, but it definitely works (with a few known bugs, admittedly, such as poor LED indicator support). I would never choose a wifi chip other than Intel, so I want to say both 1) it shouldn't present compatibility problems, and 2) encourage anyone who's had such problems to post them here, along with what they've done, so that if these *are* serious problems, I can stop suggesting Intel wifi. Because otherwise, I plan to suggest that. Lee -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmaster@lists.debian.org |

I try not to buy anything from China, but it seems that all MBs are made there, and most of the other computing stuff too. It would be nice if there was a made-in-democracy computer source. Avoiding PRC gov't owned and run may be easier to adhere to, and also attempts to avoid punishing the people for the leaders' position. WRT Lenovo: from wikipedia[1]: "effectively the Chinese government owns about 27.17% of Lenovo and is the largest shareholder". As you said, this is not simply a Taiwanese leased factory. The largest stakeholder is the PRC gov't hence the warranted distinction. Note, for me this is mostly academic. As a student and casual employee my wallet holds much sway in these decisions. cheers, Owen. As a Chinese, I dont think the Communism, or further the "absolute dictatorship" is a burden to our country. Except that "regulatory capacity" when every petty official and his brother are on the take. Should a third of the buildings that collapsed last month have collapsed? (At least one of the schools that crumbled in on itself was 160 km from the epicenter. That just *SUCKS*. It's pathetic, and every Chinese person who keeps quite and goes along to not cause waves is just as guilty of those children's deaths as the corrupt construction company owners and foremen who ordered the shoddy work, and the corrupt government inspectors who let shoddy workmanship slide by. Nah. As long as California limo liberals make sure there are no offshore oil rigs, and Ted Kennedy prevents windmills off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, they don't *really* give a rat's arse about China. - -- Ron Johnson, Jr. Jefferson LA USA "Kittens give Morbo gas.
