Default TravelMate 290 acpi problem

Hi, I've an Acer TravelMate 290 kernel 2.6.22 and the fan is never on.
When the pc is too hot, it quit immediately!!!
This is not a good situation!!!!
acpi -t :
LaptopDebian:/home/andrea# acpi -t
No support for device type: thermal

Modules are loaded:
thermal 13224 0
processor 30724 2 acpi_cpufreq,thermal
fan 4772 0

Who can help me please?
