Package: src:linux

Version: 3.2.0-4-686-pae

Severity: normal

*

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Noticed overall lagginess in response to user interaction.

Most apps did work OK with this.

Gflashplayer almost unusable (not the greatest loss but a bug, nevertheless).

*

Noticed that kdm, plasma-desktop taking unusually high cpu%.

*

I can test on nvidia's driver (Debian package) if desired.

Thanks for reporting it. I assume these symptoms appeared from an
upgrade; what kernel versions were you using before and after the
upgrade?

You can get the version of the currently running kernel by running
"cat /proc/version" --- it will appear in parentheses. The version of
the installed kernel can be retrieved with "dpkg-query -W
linux-image-$(uname -r)".

Please also attach full "dmesg" output from booting and triggering the
lag.

That would be useful for comparison, yes.

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan

I have (running now without problems) Linux version 3.2.0-3-686-pae (Debian 3.2.23-1)

*

The problems occur when running Linux version 3.2.0-4-686-pae ...

I assume this is the version 3.2.30-1 cited above.

*

I obviously can boot either.

I will try to get this later on. Did not see anything illuminating looking at syslog.

I will try this later on as well.

Thanks. I forgot to mention: "dmesg" output from booting an
unaffected kernel (for comparison) would be useful as well.

Regards,
Jonathan

Finding small weeds in the big forest, I am afraid. But I'll see what I can get.

I am running with the nvidia (Debian packages DKMS) now and this seems no work OK. This would indicate that the problem relates to Nouveau!

Bug#690250: Video (Nouveau) Lags, Gflashplayer crippled

Thanks for checking.

The nouveau changes between 3.2.23 and 3.2.30 were:

86fccf3 nouveau: Fix alignment requirements on src and dst addresses
e3b0eeb drm/nvd0/disp: mask off high 16 bit of negative cursor x-coordinate
705924f drm/nouveau: fix booting with plymouth + dumb support

Your card is an NV44 (GeForce 6200 TurboCache), and if I understand
correctly, 86fccf3 and e3b0eeb should have had no effect on that card.
So there is more to learn here. I look forward to seeing what the
logs from booting with nouveau say.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan
